Knowing and Being Known
“Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent” (John 17:3).
Think of the intimacy between God the Father and God the Son. What is clear from the Bible is that there was constant communication between them, and that their communication was perfect, clear, and sinless. Jesus was utterly and totally safe in knowing and being known. The Father was utterly safe in knowing and being known. Nothing was hidden between them. Jesus defines this “knowing” as “eternal life.” God wants that kind of intimacy between Himself and you. If you knew that anything you said or thought was “safe,” what would you say to God?
Father, how I long to know You the way Jesus knows You…and how I long to know Jesus the way You know Him. Help me to know and be known by You as I grow closer to Your heart through prayer. Thank You that I can be completely safe with You as I share my thoughts, desires and intercessions.

Praise God that he is kind and good. Give thanks for specific ways you have experienced that since the beginning of this week. Confess times when you have not been a clear and consistent image-bearer of these characteristics of your God. Commit to reflecting him with such quality that others will praise God for his kindness and goodness shown to them through you. Ask God to produce this part of his Holy Spirit’s fruit in you.
Pray that God’s people will honor him by being kind to the needy (Prov. 14:31). Ask God to use those efforts to spread his kingly influence.
