Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. (1 Peter 5:8)
Satan vigorously opposes prayer ministries. Satan dreads our prayer more than anything else. In the words of the author of The Kneeling Christian, “Do we realize that there is nothing the devil dreads so much as prayer? His great concern is to keep us from praying. He loves to see us ‘up to our eyes’ in work—provided we do not pray. He does not fear [if] we are eager . . . Bible students—provided we are little in prayer. Someone has wisely said, ‘Satan laughs at our toiling, mocks at our wisdom, but trembles when we pray.’ . . . Let us never forget that the greatest thing we can do for God or for man is to pray.”
But Satan’s opposition is not decisive. We know we can overcome him “because the one who is in [us] is greater than the one who is in the world” (1 John 4:4). Satan will flee as we draw near to God. And he will flee before God as God moves in response to our prayers.
Lord God Almighty, I desire to be strong in Your mighty power. Therefore, I will put on the full spiritual armor You have given to me so that I can take my stand against the devil’s schemes. Continually remind me that my struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. I will put on Your full armor so that when the day of evil comes, I will be able to stand my ground. I will stand firm with the belt of truth buckled around my waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with my feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. I will take up the shield of faith with which I can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. I will take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is Your holy word.
And Father, I will pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. I will be alert, and always keep on praying for all of Your people. (Based on Ephesians 6:10-18)

Praise God for his limitless power. Thank the Spirit for being “in you” and for being “greater than the one who is in the world” (1 Jn. 4:4). Confess moments when you have limited God’s power because of doubts or unbelief. Commit yourself to living in the presence and power of God every day. Ask him to make you more aware of his presence and protection daily and not to take it for granted.
Ask God to help children choose their friends wisely. Pray that young people will not give into the “evil desires” of this world (2 Tim. 2:22).
