When God Shows Up

Face To The FloorAs when fire sets twigs ablaze and causes water to boil, come down to make your nameknown to your enemies and cause the nations to quakebefore you! Isaiah 64:2

The presence of God is real. When God chooses to show up in power, there are clear effects. Isaiah gives us a couple of simple illustrations: when fire comes, twigs are set ablaze and water begins to boil. When God shows up, things begin to happen. The presence of God in revival is powerful and life-changing.

The ultimate purpose of His manifest presence though, concerns making His name known to the nations. British preacher Martyn Lloyd-Jones says it well:  “Does it grieve you that we are living in a godless age…But, we are living in such an age and the main reason we should be praying about revival is that we are anxious to see God’s name vindicated and His glory manifested. We should be anxious to see something happening that will arrest the nations, all the peoples, and cause them to stop and to think again”

Father, come to Your people in power and glory. Make Your name known to the nations. More than anything else, this world needs to see and experience You! And Father, me too! I long to see You, Lord Jesus…not only at Your second coming, as I live day by day in full awareness of Your presence in my life.

Prayer Points

Praise God for his compelling love (2 Cor. 5:14). Give thanks for that love that holds us as in a vice, never letting go (Jer. 31:3). Confess those times when you fight against God’s love, wanting to go your own way or seek glory for yourself instead of for him. Commit yourself to being comfortable in that “love grip” of God so that you willingly live for him, serving him gladly (Prov. 3:3-6). Ask God to give you a greater appreciation of his eternal blessings and to be glad with the joy of his presence (Ps. 21:6).

Pray that God’s compelling love may keep believers from fear and lead them on in the daily work of ministry “in Jerusalem, and Judea . . . and to the ends of the earth” (Joel 2:21-27; Acts 1:8).
