“Forgive us our sins, for we also forgive everyone who sins against us…” (Luke 11:4a).
Scripture is very clear that sin is a hindrance to answered prayer. Isaiah 59:2 states, “But your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear.” In Psalm 66:18 we read, “If I had cherished sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened…”
One of the most pervasive, tenacious sins in the Christian culture today is unforgiveness. It is disobedience to Christ, and it renders our prayers ineffective and powerless. Many times, an unforgiving spirit comes from a heart filled with pride. We often feel justified in our unforgiveness because of the wrong done to us. Or, the sin against us was so grievous in our own mind and heart that we cannot possibly forgive.
Lord Jesus, give me the grace to forgive those who treat me unkindly. Fill me with mercy and allow me to see people with Your heart. Search my heart for anything that causes me to be prideful and judgmental so that I might love people as You love them.

Praise the God of peace. Thank him for making available that “peace at all times and in every way” (2 Thess. 3:16). Confess ways in which you have added to an argument or refused to let God’s peace be established between you and another person. Commit to being at peace with God and others by being both pure in heart and a peacemaker (Mt. 5:8-9). Ask God to spread the wholeness of his salvation through you.
Pray for any marriages or parent-child relationships among family and friends where God’s peace is not being experienced right now. Ask God to help you know how and when to speak, be quiet, mediate, etc.
