Seek Unity in Prayer

Feb. 2013 pic“May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you a spirit of unity among yourselves as you follow Christ Jesus, so that with one heart and mouth you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ” (Romans 15:5-6).

Because of our love for God and our desire to see the kingdom advance, we must passionately pursue unity in our prayer lives.  The testimony of many Christians around the world today is that prayer has brought them into a greater unity with other believers than they ever thought possible.  It begins by simply asking the Lord to give you a desire for unity.  But it will not end there.  He will hear and answer your prayer.  Opportunities will begin to open up for you to pray with other Christians.  It requires no compromise on doctrinal issues to pray with someone else.  Let God be God!  Seek unity in prayer and see what He might do in and with you.

Lord, would you give me the passion for unity in Your body that You have?  Help me to lay aside anything in me that hinders unity.  I pray, Lord, for the complete unity in the church that will allow the world to see You more clearly.

Prayer Points

Praise God for the forgiveness of sins. Give thanks for God’s marvelous promise that “if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness” (1 Jn. 1:9). Confess your sins to God. Commit yourself to living in the joyous assurance that your sins are, indeed, forgiven (Ps. 103:3). Ask God to help you sincerely forgive others who have wronged you (Mt. 6:12).

Ask God to ease the tension of racial conflict in our cities and on some campuses. Pray for repentance and forgiveness to heal neighborhoods and communities. Ask God to protect and empower believers who are working for reconciliation.
