A Renewed Challenge to Pray for America: The Need for Hope

O Israel, hope in the LORD! For with the LORD there is steadfast love, and with him is plentiful redemption. (Ps. 130:7, ESV)

God has a positive destiny in mind for every nation. The fulfillment of this destiny depends on repentance and prayer, which will only happen if we are desperate enough for God to move in our land.

Hope-filled biblical focus is needed if we are to see a movement of prayer that moves the hand of God regarding the United States. Christians need to believe that God is not done with our nation and begin praying with passion according to the purposes of God. The focus of our hope must be in God and His Word.

If we look to our politicians, we will not have hope. If we look to our culture, we will lose our hope. If the economy is where we are placing out trust, hope will be lost with every downturn. Our hope must be in the Lord!

Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you will abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit (Romans 15:13).

God of hope, keep us focused upon Your hope-filled word and protect us from putting our dependence upon people and culture. Fill us with a deep desire to pursue Your heart at all costs, and help us to remember that You are not surprised by all of the worldly chaos swirling around us. Pull us from despair and despondency into hope-filled expectation as we place our trust in You alone.

Prayer Points

Praise God for being the God of all creation (Gen. 1:31). Thank God for the variety in his creation, in plants and animals, and especially in people (Rom. 12:4-6). Confess to him your lack of appreciation for so many of the things he has done and made (1 Tim. 4:4-5). Commit each day to the Lord, showing special appreciation for one thing in nature that you’ve not noticed in the past. Ask God to help you be more observant as you are involved in your daily activities, praising him abundantly (Ps. 135).

Pray that your appreciation of little things will help your family and friends be more appreciative of the beauty of God’s creation (Psalm 148).
