The Imprint of Holiness

Easter crossesThe grace of God is magnificent! And He is not far off. Andrew Murray stated, “Someone has said that the holiness of God is the expression of the unspeakable distance by which He in His righteousness is separated from us, and yet also of the inseparable nearness in which He in His love longs to hold fellowship with us and dwell in us.”

When we encounter a holy God we must bow before Him. His fire will consume the sin that stains our hearts and separates us from Him. Our hearts will no longer belong to the world; they will belong to God. It is impossible to hold onto a holy God with one hand and the world with the other. When we let go of the world and cling to God with both hands, we will not only be on holy ground, but we will be on praying ground.

Moses’ life would never be the same after his encounter with God. His heart was set apart for God’s divine purpose. He became known as the friend of God. Exodus 33:11 says, “The Lord used to speak to Moses face to face, just as a man speaks to his friend.”

Too few people are known as the friends of God. Many are known as great communicators and ministers, great musicians and workers. But a great need exists for friends of God.

A friend of God will have the imprint of holiness on his heart and the tool of prayer in his hand. He will live every day with a separated and seeking heart. Many claim to have a seeking heart without having a separated heart. They claim to pray and seek God but continue to live with sin tucked away. They may fool others and may even deceive themselves, but they will never fool God. Only a holy heart will be honored in the presence of a holy God.

Lord, to be separated from You is the greatest agony that can be imagined! May every encounter I have with You be a Moses encounter – a walk on holy ground! I long to spend time deepening my friendship with You, and allowing You to speak truth into my life. Help me to separate myself from the sinfulness of the world while still living as an example of holiness within it!

Prayer Points

Praise God as the Creator who makes all things new (Rev. 21:5). Give thanks for his power to bring even the most deadened souls to life in Jesus— including your own (Eph. 2:1-5). Confess those times when you have lost faith in God’s power to renew and restore. Commit yourself to renewing your mind every day in prayer and in reading God’s Word. Ask God to teach you what it means that you are now God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works (2:10).

Pray that those prayer warriors who intercede daily for politicians and governments around the world will never lose faith in God’s power to renew and restore.
