In all their distress he too was distressed, and the angel of his presence saved them. In his love and mercy he redeemed them; he lifted them up and carried them all the days of old. Isaiah 63:9
In the Lord’s great love for His people, He identifies with their distress and responds accordingly. It is fascinating that the means of God’s intervention on behalf of Judah was the angel of His presence. It is His presence, or an angel from His presence, that brings about salvation. With God’s presence, the saints will always experience the redeeming ways of God, even when to the outward eye, the situation seems dire.
How encouraging it is to know that God is distressed when we are distressed. So often, we can feel as though God is far away and not interested in what is happening in our lives. Instead, the Word of God shows us that He wants to lift us up and carry us all the days of our lives.
It is almost beyond belief, Lord, that You are so involved in my life that my distresses and difficulties affect You. Come Lord, that in your presence all my worries and difficulties may find resolution. You are my Redeemer and my Savior! I place myself in Your strong arms so that You may carry me through this life and beyond.

Read Ps. 91:1-2 and praise the Most High, the Almighty, the Lord, your God. Thank him for providing shelter and shade from the heat of spiritual conflict in your life. Confess those times when you’ve sought shelter other than that provided by the Most High. Commit yourself to simply resting in God. Ask him always to be your refuge and fortress in every life situation.
Pray for those who take the liberating love of Christ into prisons throughout the world. Ask God to bless those prisoners who have trusted Christ, but must remain behind bars. Pray for their safety and testimony to other prisoners.
