No one calls on your name or strives to lay hold of you; for you have hidden your face from us and made us waste away because of our sins. Isaiah 64:7
Isaiah’s statement, “no one calls on your name,” strikes a little too close to home for the American Church. Though there are certainly praying Christians, the average believer prays 3-5 minutes a day. The average pastor spends 6-10 minutes a day in prayer… and we wonder why we find ourselves powerless to change our culture.
God is not going to allow us to affect society in our own strength. It is time to agree with Jesus that apart from Him, we can do nothing. Prayer, more than any other activity, demonstrates our dependence upon the Lord.
Lord, forgive me of my prayerlessness. Forgive Your Church for trying to do Your work in our own strength, rather than in dependence upon You. We confess that we, Your people, are not passionate about striving to lay hold of You. Please pour out a spirit of prayer upon us. Give us a deep desire to bring prayer into every aspect of our lives. Teach us to pray!

Praise God for meeting with his people in special ways through weekly worship services. Give thanks that you can continue to be with him today! Confess times of ignoring God during the weekdays. Commit yourself to a special time of worshiping God through personal devotions each day this week. Ask the Lord to remind you of his presence throughout this day.
Pray that unsaved persons around the world will see that brilliant witness of Christian leaders and glorify God. Ask God to shine clearly and consistently through you in your sphere of influence.
