Reverential Awe

May devotions picture“He fulfills the desires of those who fear him; he hears their cry and saves them” (Psalm 145:19).

When we draw near to God in reverential awe, what the Bible often calls “fear,” we are in the proper place to receive from Him the desires of our heart. Fear of the Lord means that we are aware that He is God and we are not. It places Him over us as Lord, and we bow before Him, seeking first His kingdom and His righteousness. In that godly place of prayer and submission, it delights the Lord to delight us. “May he give you the desire of your heart and make all your plans succeed” (Psalm 20:4). “I waited patiently for the Lord; he turned to me and heard my cry” (Psalm 40:1).

Holy God, I bow my heart before You, longing to hear Your voice. Draw me close to Your grace-filled heart so that I might be completely transformed by Your Presence living within me.

Prayer Points

Praise God as the one from whom all things have come; praise him as the one to whom you are going when you are called home. Thank God that your relationship with him extends beyond this life. Confess the times when your focus has been only on physical needs, not God’s eternal purpose for you (Mt. 6:33). Commit yourself to seeking God’s will for you and to hearing the voice of his Spirit through the preaching of the Word. Ask God to reveal himself to you in his splendor and glory.

Pray for those preachers in other countries who must serve eight or ten churches at a time. Ask God to give them strength and to provide lay leaders who can minister in their absence.
