Paul knew the mystery of Christ. And he was trying to help the Ephesian believers understand everything they had in their relationship with Christ. As he explained the mystery of Christ, he shared a prayer he was praying for them:
“I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge – that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen” (Ephesians 3;16-21).
Paul prayed for inner strength and power so that faith might grow in them. He prayed for an outpouring of the depths of God’s love, so that they might realize the fullness of Christ within them, so that they would walk in all the power of God. He closed with a benediction – a declaration – that the God who always does more than we think He will do – that God will bring glory to His Son, Jesus, in and through them.
Father, I pray for strength and power in my spirit; a strength and power that will grow my faith in You to completely new levels. May the evidence of Your Presence in my life be so strong that everyone would recognize the life of Your Son, Jesus Christ, in me!

Praise the Father who has compassion on his children. Thank him for forgiving all your sins, healing all your diseases, redeeming your life from the pit, crowning you with love and compassion, and satisfying your desires with good things (Psalm 103). Confess those periods in your day when you are unaware of God’s faithful, watching, loving presence beside you and within you. Commit yourself to watching for signs of his love and tenderness toward you. Ask him to draw you closer to himself.
Pray for “those who are least in the kingdom of heaven”—the poor, sick, lonely, outcast, struggling, grieving—that they may find the Father’s love in a warm church fellowship.
