Prayer Can Release God’s Grace and Power into Your Neighborhood

Knock & Seek Mt 7 Jan 2014 (576x800)The Lord will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail (Isaiah 58:11).

Think of God as having an infinite reservoir of blessings. A pipeline connects every house in your neighborhood with that reservoir. There’s a faucet on that pipeline to your neighbors, and that faucet is opened only by prayer. Each time you pray for a neighbor, you open the faucet and allow the blessings of God’s grace to flow. Before long, your neighborhood can be like a well-watered garden.

Prayer gains access where people cannot go. Neighbors can isolate themselves, closing their doors and their hearts. But God can reach beyond these barriers—and he does so in response to the prayers of his people.

One church in a small New York town decided to canvass its community by means of prayer. There were no brochures, newsletters, or tracts. No one pressed a doorbell. All that the church members did was pray that God would touch the lives of the people who lived on each of the town’s forty streets.

What happened? People started visiting the church “out of the blue.” One Sunday, four families showed up just a few days after the people on their street had been prayed for. Prayer reached into their hearts and homes.

When things happen in answer to prayer in people’s lives—things that cannot be explained by the natural laws of cause and effect—people take notice. They begin to make room in their view of the world for a God who is living, active, and powerful. When blessings come in answer to prayer, people begin to be aware of the God who cares. God has gotten their attention.

Infinite Reservoir of Blessing, I am continually astonished at the depth of Your creativity and power in the midst of everyday life! Thank You for the gift of intercession that allows me to knock on the door of heaven on behalf of people who have yet to call upon Your Name. Continually bring names and faces to my mind, or into my path so that I might have the greatest privilege of all – seeking Your face for their salvation. May my prayers be the catalyst that enables lost people to turn their attention to You.

Prayer Points

Praise God for the beauty of his holiness (2 Chron. 20:21). Give thanks that he has removed the stain of sin from your life and made you holy. Confess any sin or unholiness that taints your life. Commit yourself to being holy, as God is holy (1 Pet. 1:16). Ask that you may be made holy through and through so that your spirit, soul, and body will be kept blameless (1 Thess. 5:23).

Pray for families undergoing severe marital strife, asking that God will rekindle a flame of love between husband and wife.
