Keeping the Proper Perspective

April 2013“For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the first born from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy” (Col. 1:16-18).

Spiritually dry times can often produce an inward focus. It’s true that we need to spend time letting God search our hearts for sin issues that may be the cause of the distance we feel from God. But we must not get caught up in the pit of “it’s all about me”—what am I doing wrong, how can I get out of this funk, etc. The enemy will use anything he can to redirect our time, energy and worship.

Start praising Him, focusing on Him, telling Him how much you love Him. If you don’t get anywhere else in prayer that day, at least you’ve kept the proper perspective. Remember, it’s all about Him!

Lord, You are my prayer, my hope, and my answer.  All I need is You! Nothing else matters but You.  Help me keep things in perspective today.

Prayer Points

Praise God for being a great and awesome God (Deut. 7:21). Thank him for bending down low in order to bring salvation and faith to you. Confess times when you’ve thought God was small and powerless. Commit yourself to worshiping God with “reverence and awe” (Heb. 12:28). Ask for a true sense of awe as you meet God in the sanctuary (Ps. 68:35).

The psalmist says to God: “How awesome are your deeds! . . . All the earth bows down to you” (Ps. 66:3-4). Pray that God’s awesome power might be clearly evident throughout his kingdom worldwide.
