“Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer” (Romans 12:12).
More and more I’m discovering that there’s hardly a phone conversation that wouldn’t benefit from interjecting prayer into it. So it’s not unusual for me to conclude one of these interchanges with: “Hey, before we hang up, let me take a minute to pray about…” I end that sentence with one or two concerns that were voiced during the previous minutes. And then I pray. If it’s a believer on the other end of the line, often my “Amen” will be followed by their, “Now, let me pray for you.” I can’t tell you how much prayer seems to raise the value of my phone conversations.

Lord God Almighty, it’s so easy to dismiss the people in my life and their struggles without caring enough to bring them before You. Give me a deep desire to transform all of my interactions into opportunities to connect others with Your power through prayer. Thank You for the blessing and opportunity to lift others up through such a simple act as a phone call.
Praise “the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort” (2 Cor. 1:3). Thank God for coming to you with his compassion and comfort in your times of need. Confess insensitivity toward others who need you to be a channel of God’s compassion and comfort. Commit to an openhearted lifestyle. Ask God to love someone through you this week.
Pray for the unsaved to be warmed and opened by the compassion and comfort brought by God’s people. Ask that they be moved to accept God’s central compassion and comfort in the person of Christ Jesus.
