Prayer: The Key to Evangelism

God is moving all things toward completion. I don’t pretend to know when. But I do know the key. It is evangelism. And the key to evangelism is prayer. Jesus said, “And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all nations, and then the end will come” (Matthew 24:14). The gospel is going to be preached to all nations…Jesus said so.

Jesus also ties together prayer and evangelism in Matthew 9:37-38: “The harvest is truly plentiful but the laborers are few. Therefore pray the Lord of the Harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.” Then, in 1 Timothy chapter 2, Paul urges prayers to be lifted up because God wants everyone saved. If you want to be a part of the fulfillment of these Scriptures, begin to pray through these passages earnestly.

Lord of the Harvest, You have asked us to ask You for laborers in the midst of Your harvest, so I am asking You to raise up willing workers whom You have equipped especially for this task.  Use me to pray for, encourage and provide for these workers.  And, if You desire to send me out into the harvest, I trust You to train and anoint me for the work.

Prayer Points

Praise the Son of Man, who cares about your material needs, your health, and your freedom. Thank him for including you in “proclaim[ing] the year of the Lord’s favor” (Lk. 4:18-19). Confess that you give more thought to your family’s needs than to the needs of those who have far less. Commit yourself to change. Ask God to open your eyes, heart, time, and finances to a specific person or outreach ministry.

Pray daily that together with family members or friends you will unite around a ministry cause. Ask for oneness of desire.
