Knowing Him

“Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable his judgments, and his paths beyond tracing out” (Romans 11:33).

I want to know God’s heart within my own heart. No, it does not mean that I need to memorize Scripture in order to understand the wisdom and the knowledge of God. Memorizing His Word, though, gives me His words to describe His wisdom and the knowledge of Him. I do not have to talk about Him in abstract terms, but in His own words. I can identify with His heart by knowing His words. If Romans 11:33 is absolutely true, then why wouldn’t we want to know His heart through memorizing His Word? Knowing Him has to be our greatest priority. If memorizing His Word helps me do that, then there is no legitimate reason not to do it. If I memorized ten verses in my life, then I am ten verses closer to really knowing Him.

Word of God, I long to know You and yet I neglect reading, memorizing and meditating upon Your truth.  I’m not sure why I allow myself to get so distracted by worldly things that I cannot find time to give myself fully to walking with You.  Please train my heart to know You from my very depths.  Increase my longing and desire for Your Word.

Prayer Points

Praise God as the source of all true wisdom and discernment (Col. 2:3). Thank him for supplying his church with the gifts of wisdom, knowledge, and the ability to distinguish between spirits (1 Cor. 12:8-10). Confess those times when you have failed to discern the cultural influences that try to choke out spiritual growth and fruitfulness. Commit yourself to testing the spirits to see whether they are from God (1 Jn. 4:1). Ask God to make you more aware of the reality of spiritual warfare in your life (Eph. 6:10-12).

Ask God to lift the spiritual blindness from political leaders in your country, that they may make decisions that help create a wholesome and God-honoring society.
