God in Us

The promises made to Israel were completed in Jesus Christ.

He received the Spirit of God, in order to grant us the gift of the Spirit. God entered the human race in Jesus, so that God could enter the human race in us through His Spirit dwelling within us. That is why He is the “baptizer in the Holy Spirit.”

But it was never intended that this be an individual gift alone. God does not merely give any one person His Spirit. Rather God’s desire is that we receive His Spirit as individuals with a specific end in mind: God’s desire is to finish the task—to make us “a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.” When we receive the Spirit, we become forged together in utter unity with all those who have also received the same gift. We receive God’s very being in us so that we become a “people of God” together.

When we pray “Your Kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven,” we are praying that God’s desire from the beginning of time be completely fulfilled. His desire was that a people (created by the sacrifice of Christ and joined by their common experience of the Spirit of God) who are utterly different than anything the world has ever seen before, be set apart just for Him.

Spirit of God, thank You for rescuing me from death and placing me in community with other believers!  Use Your church to fulfill Your desires from the beginning of time.  Make us ready to demonstrate Your powerful love to the world.

Prayer Points
Praise the Lamb who is worthy “to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise” (Rev. 5:12). Thank God for the blood of the Lamb given for the complete remission of all your sin. Confess any self-centeredness which has taken your focus off God. Commit yourself to loving God with all your heart and soul and mind and strength, and your neighbor as yourself. Ask him to give you the kingdom and make you his priest that you may serve him and reign with him on earth.

Pray that sons and daughters who have wandered away from the faith may be restored.
