Praying with Your Spouse

My wife and I do some of our best praying together as we walk beside the river that winds its way through our town.  There are paved bike paths on both sides of this waterway.  So we saunter (I want to saunter, Sue wants to “power walk”) for two miles in one direction, cross a picturesque wooden bridge, then return along the other bank to where we began.  We do it for the exercise.  We do it for the pleasure of being out in nature.  We do it for the contribution it makes to our marriage.  But most of all we do it for the opportunity it gives us to come into the presence of God.

Father, You have given me an earthly partner to walk through this life with.  There are few things that will strengthen my marriage more profoundly than praying with my spouse.  Give me a deep desire to do this daily, so that my life’s partner is also my best prayer partner!

Prayer Points
Pray Daniel’s words of praise: “Praise be to the name of God for ever and ever; wisdom and power are his” (Dan. 2:20). Thank God for guiding you to make wise choices in life. Confess times when you chose to follow the foolishness of this world’s wisdom rather than the wisdom of God. Commit yourself to seeking the “Spirit of wisdom and of understanding” (Isa. 11:2). Ask God to give to you the “wisdom that comes from heaven” (Jas. 3:17).

Pray for the ability to keep your testimony simple and genuine as you cross paths with people who are trying to understand the things of God.
