Do You Need the Peace of God Today?

“So not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.  And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:6-7).

Paul was expressing that when we can pray in the midst of any circumstance, and when we can even have hearts of thanksgiving and praise in the midst of those circumstances, something unusual and supernatural happens. A sense of peace will come from outside ourselves and will provide what we need to walk through the difficult situation.  It is literally the peace of God.  What does it do?  It guards our hearts and minds to keep remembering the truth of God’s faithfulness, provision, and love so that we do not believe the lies Satan wants to plant in us.  Praying and praising takes us above our circumstances.  Do you need peace today?  Ask God for peace.  Praise God for His attributes – especially those aspects of God’s character that you need right now.

Father, I thank You that You promised Your peace to us, a peace that is way beyond anything I can muster up on my own.  I thank You and praise You for Your goodness and Your faithfulness to me.  I claim right now that peace You promised in Your Word, the peace that transcends knowledge and understanding.  Bless You, Father, for You are worthy to be praised!

Prayer Points

Praise God for his unsearchable riches in Christ, riches with which nothing can compare (Rom. 11:33-36; Eph. 3:8-12). Thank him for allowing you to share in these riches because of your relationship to Jesus Christ (Col. 2:2-3). Confess your failure to appreciate God’s riches and the many times you’ve looked to what the world calls riches for your happiness. Commit yourself to finding your security in Christ alone. Ask God to help you fully appreciate his riches in Jesus, giving him the glory.

Pray for opportunities to show God’s riches in Christ by some specific act of giving today (Lk. 12:21).
