Jesus’ primary mission on earth was His atoning death and resurrection. However, He also served as the perfect example for all Christians to follow. Being the Son of God, He was the model teacher, the consummate leader, the exemplary servant, and the excellent ethicist. His prayer life—as in all other spiritual disciplines—was perfect. So, a Christian desiring to learn about prayer and how to pray should carefully examine and follow the prayer life of Jesus.
Jesus is divine, and He was filled with the Holy Spirit throughout His earthly ministry. If anyone ever had an excuse for a lax prayer life, it was Jesus! Yet, Jesus prayed frequently (Luke 5:16), fervently (Luke 22:44), and faithfully (John 17) — even rising early to pray after a long day of teaching and healing (Mk.1:35).
Lord Jesus, please teach me how to pray frequently, fervently and faithfully as You did in Your humanity! You are God, and yet, You rose early to pray, and you never did or said anything You didn’t receive from Your Father. Please give me a better understanding of the power of prayer so that I will seek Your face passionately and continually.

Praise God for the diversity of his creation. Give thanks for your heritage and unique attributes which add to the abundance of God’s diverse creation. Confess those times when you failed to accept and love people unlike yourself. Commit yourself to learning about and thanking God for other cultures. Ask God to stretch your understanding of who he is and what he desires of you.
Ask God to open doors of opportunity for you to share the gospel with someone from a differing background or culture. Pray that God will prepare you for that divine encounter this week.
“God’s power enters our human programs through the door of prayer. Unless the church’s ministry is bathed in prayer, it remains merely a human endeavor.” —Anonymous
