Heavenly Prayer Partners

aplpc“Therefore he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them” (Hebrews 7:25).

As our prayer partner, Jesus prays for us just as He did for His disciples (Jn. 17; Rom. 8:34; Heb. 7:25; Heb. 9:24; 1 Jn. 2:1). As a prayer partner, Jesus affects our prayer life in a least three ways: we learn to pray in agreement with Him, in confidence with Him, and in persistence with Him. . . . The Holy Spirit also acts as a prayer partner. . . . According to Romans 8:26-27, the Holy Spirit “helps our weaknesses,” guides us in “how to pray as we should,” “intercedes for us,” “searches our hearts,” and helps us to discern “the will of God.”. . . In addition to the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit serving as our prayer partners, there is a partnership entered into with the angels. Angels are assigned by God “to render service for the sake of those who will inherit salvation” (Heb. 1:14).

It is reassuring for us to know that we can count on the heavenly prayer partners whom God provided as we are involved in His ministry. This helps us to avoid the feeling that we are alone and that we are the only ones who are praying and seeking God’s guidance and help.

Lord Jesus, my mind can’t comprehend how amazing it is that you live to intercede for me! This thought gives my heart great peace and allows me to press into prayer with greater confidence! Thank You for being my friend and advocate and for sending the Holy Spirit to teach me how to pray in agreement with You and to pray with more persistence! How amazing to think that I am able to partner with the Trinity in the ministry of intercession! My heart overflows with gratitude for this incredible gift!

Prayer Points

Praise God that he is coming with the clouds and every eye shall see him (Rev. 1:7). Give thanks that you have a personal relationship with God and will be with him for all eternity (1 Cor. 15:51-52). Confess your clinging to a sinful deed or habit that needs to be overcome. Commit yourself to being on guard and standing firm in your faith (Eph. 6:13-18). Ask God to hold that vision of glory before you, restraining you from strong attachment to earthly possessions.

Ask that you never be ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ for it is the power of God for salvation (Rom. 1:16). Share that salvation today with a non-Christian.
