Yet they rebelled and grieved his Holy Spirit. So he turned and became their enemy and he himself fought against them. Isaiah 63:10
We turn again today to this critical tenth verse of Isaiah 63. The rebellion of God’s people and their consequent estrangement from God set the stage for all that would follow. God’s severity was a prelude to His mercy and an absolute necessity if His people were to wake up and return to Him.
Isaiah says the rebellion of His people grieved God’s Holy Spirit. That is exactly what we are warned against in the New Testament. Have you grieved the Holy Spirit through rebellion against God? Are you living in a way that pleases Him and seeks to bring Him honor in all that you do? It is not perfection we are seeking…rather, we are seeking the Perfect One!
Lord, help me to understand how easy it is to begin to drift away…allowing my own desires to supplant what You desire. Forgive me when I have grieved Your Holy Spirit. I confess my sin, bow before You in repentance, and bring all that I am under the precious, atoning blood of Jesus. I set You before me Lord, choosing through the power of the Holy Spirit to seek You with all my heart.

Praise God for his heart that is open, warm, loving, and kind toward all he has made. Thank God for reaching down to draw you to himself through his Son (Jn. 3:16). Confess the times when your heart has been unwilling to give to others the same out-reaching love that you have received from God. Commit yourself to learning the kind, patient love of God (1 Cor.13:4). Ask him to fill you with a knowledge of the depth and breadth of his love (Eph. 3:14-19).
Intercede for the specific caring ministries that your church or denomination is involved in worldwide, asking that broken lives and poverty-stricken families may be helped.
