“For yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever” (Matthew 6:13).
“The kingdom, the power, and the glory forever” has a fulfillment in our present lives—through the presence of the Holy Spirit. But the Holy Spirit with us right now is actually only the down payment—the guarantee of what we are to receive at the end of time:
“While we live in this earthly tent, we groan with a feeling of oppression; it is not that we want to get rid of our earthly body, but that we want to have the heavenly one put on over us, so that what is mortal will be transformed by life. God is the one who has prepared us for this change, and he gave us his Spirit as the guarantee of all that he has in store for us. So we are always full of courage. We know that as long as we are at home in the body, we are away from the Lord’s home. . . . More than anything else, however, we want to please him, whether in our home here or there. For all of us must appear before Christ, to be judged by him” (2 Corinthians 5:4-6, 9-10).
What will we receive at the end? Not just a trinket or two—even if it is a magnificent trinket—like heaven itself. We will receive not only the Holy Spirit’s presence in our temporary tent here below. Instead we will receive a permanent home. Better yet, God will too! In a fluid and impossible set of overlapping images, God becomes our home and we become God’s.
The point is plain: We will receive God in all His fullness, just like a bride receives her husband on the wedding day. And God gets His bride—the one He has waited for and prepared to marry for eternity.

When a bride marries, she receives all that belongs to the husband, but if she loves him, she doesn’t marry to obtain goods. She marries the groom and gets the groom—whether rich or poor. Now this groom is the author of all things—and we will receive God Himself. There will be God’s glory, but even that is a pale and weak side benefit from receiving all of who God is forever. The rest won’t matter.
Glorious Bridegroom, I can hardly comprehend the blessings You have poured out into my life on earth, and yet, You have so much more waiting for me in my heavenly home. When we are together for eternity, I will receive all of who You are forever! It amazes me that I will share in the wedding feast of the Lamb and see the magnificence of heaven. Thank You, Father, for the sacrifice of Your own precious Son so that my lost and sinful self was able to be found and redeemed. May my life on earth bring You glory each day I draw breath until I see You face to face.

Praise God for his unconditional love (1 Corinthians 13). Thank him for showing you in Christ how to love others unconditionally. Confess your lack of love when you’ve failed to meet God’s standards and requirements. Commit yourself to allowing his love to flow naturally through you, resulting in spontaneous acts of love (1 Jn. 3:18). Ask God to let the Holy Spirit work in you daily so that “love deeds” are a “natural” way of life.
Pray that God will help you do something spontaneous today to reflect his love to one who is outside of the family of God (Lk. 6:27-31).
