Praying for those Seeking the Presidency

God is on the throne – only God. The people pursuing the presidency of the United States of America are mortals with unique strengths and flaws. Ask the Lord, through these prayers, to give us wisdom, good discernment, and great faith in His power alone as we go through this election season:

Lord, it is a serious thing to desire to be president. You judge those in positions of authority in order to protect the weak. Your Word says, “Is he not the One who says to kings, ‘You are worthless,’ and to nobles, ‘You are wicked,’ who shows no partiality to princes and does not favor the rich over the poor, for they are all the work of his hands” (Job 34:18-19). So we pray for those who desire to be president that they would understand the serious nature of this quest and where it places them in relationship to You.

“The heart of the righteous ponders how to answer, but the mouth of the wicked pours out evil things” (Prov. 15:28). In an election in which words matter, I pray for righteous speech. Lord, reveal what is evil and make it obvious and odious. Help all of our candidates to carefully consider what they say and speak only what is truth. Give them hearts that ponder how to truthfully answer the questions that come before them.

“He makes nations great, and he destroys them; he enlarges nations, and leads them away” (Job 12:23). Like all nations before us, our years are in your hands Lord. Help us as we make decisions this year regarding a new president, and that we would take into account that You alone have authority over nations. May the choices we make bring honor to You!

Prayer Points

Praise “Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.” Thank him for his willingness to leave his heavenly home to live among sinners. Confess any way in which you have been unwilling to sacrifice in order to come alongside those in need. Commit yourself to having the attitude of Jesus (Phil. 2:5-11). Ask God to give you that selfless love.

Pray that the presence of Jesus through you will effectively draw an unsaved neighbor to him. Ask God to give you the right actions, words, and love in your community.
