Devotions for Every Day Life

The Eternal Nature of God

Trust in the LORD forever, for the LORD, the LORD, is the Rock eternal. (Isaiah 26:4)

Not only is God everywhere, but He is there all of the time. He is eternal in nature. He was before the beginning and will be after the end. Too many Christians pray only with a view of the here and now. When we enter into the presence of God, however, we are leaving the realm of the temporal and entering the realm of the eternal. Prayer has the power to clear the slate of yesterday and paint the picture of life for tomorrow. We can stand on the promise of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob while we trust God to shape our future. When Moses encountered God, he asked Him about His name. God said that His name is “I AM WHO I AM” (Exodus 3:14). He told Moses to tell the children of Israel that “I AM” had sent him.

It is amazing that thousands of years later God still remains “I AM.” He does not grow old. The God of the men and women of faith in the past centuries is our God today. He is ready to work in this generation as much as He did with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

When we enter our prayer chamber, we need to focus on the eternal nature of God.

Eternal God, You are the Great I AM of the past, present and future. Your word is forever. What an awesome thought to know that when I commune with You in prayer, I enter the “realm of the eternal.” My life is completely in Your hands to do with as You have planned. Your kingdom is now and forever. You have accomplished Your eternal purposes through Jesus Christ, and it is in Him and through faith in Him that I am able to approach You in prayer with freedom and confidence (Eph. 3:10). Praise be to the God of yesterday, today and forever!

Prayer Points

Praise God for his strength and confidence, enduring from everlasting to everlasting (1 Chron. 29:10-11). Give thanks that God is your strength and confidence and that he will never fail you or forsake you (1 Chron. 28:20). Confess to the Lord your failure to rely completely upon him and his Word (Isa. 41:10). Commit yourself to being strong and doing the work God has for you without complaining (Phil. 2:14). Ask God to forgive you for not depending on him and that you may wait on the Lord and be confident of his love (Jeremiah 31:3).

Pray that your church will be strong in preparing its membership to grow in their daily walk and work for him as parents, teachers, workers, etc.
