Yours, O LORD, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the majesty and the splendor, for everything in heaven and earth is yours. Yours, O LORD, is the kingdom; you are exalted as head over all. (1 Chronicles 29:11)
Certainly in the life of our Lord, His power was made evident in the accomplishment of the miraculous. And yet this power flowing through Him was put to use to serve others, especially the poor, the helpless, and the hopeless. His power was not put to use to aggrandize Himself, or to draw the adoration of the masses at His own innate ability to “do.” And the key to this power was the fact that Jesus’ days were saturated with prayer.

This lesson about power didn’t come easily to the disciples. When they were talking about Jesus as king, and the coming kingdom of our Lord, He needed to re-teach them that the fundamental understanding of power used by the world (to overpower so that the conquered should serve the conqueror) was diametrically opposed to God’s rule of power—which was to send power to raise others up.
Jesus’ power is given to empower.
“Yours, O LORD, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the majesty and the splendor, for everything in heaven and earth is yours. Yours, O LORD, is the kingdom; you are exalted as head over all” (1 Chronicles 29:11). Father, empower Your people to draw near to You in intimate relationship so that through the prayers that result, You will move powerfully in lives, families, governments and nations. Use Your people to turn this world upside down, as the early believers did in their day. Give us the hearts of servants, to serve as Jesus served! May Your power be made perfect in our weaknesses so that our culture and our world will see the awesomeness of our God!

Praise God as the high and lofty One who lives forever, who lives in a high and holy place, but also with those who are contrite and lowly in spirit (Isa. 57:15). Thank him for choosing the lowliness of the cross to show his power and wisdom to the world (1 Cor. 1:20-25). Confess any resistance on your part to sharing in the humility of the gospel. Commit yourself to laying your pride daily before the feet of Christ. Ask Jesus to help you empty yourself in service to God, as he did (Philippians 2).
Pray that the leaders of your country will be given the humility to seek wisdom and strength from God for their tasks.
