God Is Perfect In His Goodness

The goodness of God does not ignore trouble and problems in life; it brings victory and peace to our lives in the midst of trouble. The psalmist writes in Psalm 107:1, “Oh give thanks to the Lord, for He is good.” Throughout that psalm the psalmist speaks of the problems and difficulties in life. Then he tells of how good God is in the midst of those difficulties. We can never fully appreciate the nature and attributes of the Father until we rest in the assurance that He is perfect in His goodness. God is so good!

Even when bad things touch our lives, we only have to look to the Father. He is good. He can even cause bad things to work together for good to those who love Him. When the Father touches the bad situations of our lives, He supernaturally causes good to come forth from those situations. He is a good Father.

The enemy will accuse God at this point. He will come to us and show us the evil in the world. He vividly describes the atrocities throughout history. And he says that God is the cause and source of evil. The moment that we begin to entertain that thought, we lose power in prayer. The Father longs to express His goodness to His children. If we are to be powerful in prayer, we must have a clear view of His goodness.

Good and Perfect God, You work all things for my own good. You have a future and hope for me. Protect me from the doubt and discouragement that the enemy would try to suck me into instead of the joy and peace You long to give me. You are a good Father, and my heart will stand firm upon that truth!

Prayer Points

Praise Jesus for his mighty victory over temptation in his confrontation with Satan in the desert (Mt. 4:1-11). Thank God for his promise that you are never tempted beyond what you can handle (1 Cor. 10:13). Confess the many times you have yielded to temptation, not claiming God’s power to “resist the devil” (Jas. 4:7). Commit yourself to God that you may overcome evil with good (Prov. 3:7-8). Ask him to assure you that you will overcome all the power of the enemy because of his ultimate victory over Satan at the cross.

Pray that you, with the power of God, might use an opportunity today to help an unsaved friend have victory over temptation (Col. 4:5-6).
