An Urgent Appeal

Easter crosses“I will remain in the world no longer, but they are still in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, protect them by the power of your name—the name you gave me—so that they may be one as we are one” (John 17:11).

When believers gather in His very person, Jesus’ power flows out of a sense of profound unity among the pray-ers—the unity named in John 17:11, 20-26, between Christ and the Father. Without this kind of agreement, the power of faith is weakened. The asking is not merely requesting that a need be fulfilled. Rather, this is an urgent appeal to the Lord of the universe that God Himself intervene around an agreed upon issue for the Lord’s glory. It is filled with urgency, a demand that this prayer must be answered, for the name and reputation of God Himself is at stake.

There is a profound truth that merits reflection. God has ceded His glory to us. What happens to God’s people, then, has a direct bearing on God’s own reputation. Our corporate walk as believers together reflects upon how the world perceives the power and the glory of God.

Lord Jesus, I want to see Your Name glorified and Your reputation grow in my family, my church, my community, my nation and around the world as Your people gather together as one Body! There is power in agreement as we lift our voices together! Show us how to walk together in integrity of heart and in holiness before those who have yet to know You as Savior and Lord!

Prayer Points

Praise God for seeking and saving the lost. Give thanks that Jesus is “the good shepherd [who] lays down his life for the sheep” (Jn. 10:11). Confess those instances and ways in which you ignore the voice of your Shepherd. Commit yourself to learning to be content whatever the circumstances (Phil. 4:11). Ask God to give you the fullness of life which comes with following the Savior.

Pray for those who serve in law enforcement, that the stress of their jobs will not be too much for them to bear. Ask God to give them special strength to do their jobs well.
