Our Job Is to Ask

IMG_4253For when you did awesome things that we did not expect, you came down, and the mountains trembled  before you.  Isa.64:3

In CS Lewis’s Chronicles of Narnia, the lion, Aslan, is clearly a Christ figure. One of the story’s characters says of Aslan, “He is not a tame lion.” Nor is God tame. He delights in doing the unexpected. Dividing the Red Sea so the Israelites can walk on dry land through its midst…a pillar of fire…delaying the sunset so a battle can be won…protecting 3 boys in a fiery furnace…the Son of God dying on a cross outside Jerusalem. Awesome things that we did not expect!

When you pray for revival, what are you expecting? Maybe the best question is: how is God going to answer your prayer? We don’t get to choose. Our job is to ask. Perhaps we’ll see something like the Great Awakenings, or maybe the mountains will tremble. Whatever God chooses to do, it will be something so awesome that we never could have expected it!

Holy Father, we long for a fresh move of Your Spirit that awakens Your people and changes the nations. Come in Your awesome power. Help us, so that we are not hemmed in by our own expectations. You are God! You will do what You will do. We choose to fix our eyes on You and glorify You… however You manifest Yourself.

Prayer Points

Praise God for his comfort. Thank God that he holds you close and calls you his child. Confess those times when you have rejected God’s love. Commit yourself to seeking God’s comfort through the people in the church and his Word. Ask him to deliver you from your desire to handle your pain alone.

Pray that the members of your congregation will reach out in ways which comfort those who are disheartened, discouraged, and depressed.

“Far be it from me that I should sin against the LORD by failing to pray for you.” —1 Samuel 12:23

The information on Pray the Word’s website will help to encourage, equip and challenge believers to regularly pray God’s Word. You will find discipleship tools, prayer guides, resources and ideas to take you deeper into the heart of God through praying the Scriptures.
