The Glory of God

Connect Sept 2013 picThe desert and the parched land will be glad; the wilderness will rejoice and blossom. Like the crocus, it will burst into bloom; it will rejoice greatly and shout for joy.  The glory of Lebanon will be given to it, the splendor of Carmel and Sharon; they will see the glory of the LORD, the splendor of our God. Isaiah 35:1-2

Scripture says that the land itself pays a price for sin. In the Old Testament, droughts, destructive wars, plagues of locusts, etc. all came as a result of unrepentant sin and the withdrawal of God’s protection. As the Lord’s favor returns to His people, the land begins to blossom again. The glory of God touches all of creation.

In the New Testament, we read of the world groaning as a result of sin and eagerly anticipating the return of Jesus to bring redemption. Salvation and revival is not just a personal matter, but affects society and the physical world. How eagerly we should be praying for revival, knowing that as we “see the glory of the Lord, the splendor of our God,” we can expect amazing transformation in the world around us.

Lord, how we long to see Your glory and be changed…not just at Your return, Lord Jesus, although we long for that, but also in a great revival that may precede Your coming. How desperately the physical world around us, our human societies and structures, and our individual families and lives need the transforming touch of Your presence.

Prayer Points

Praise God as the one who holds out his arms to the world in welcoming love and invitation. Thank God for having intervened in your life to bring you to a growing knowledge of his love for you. Confess your sins of this past week, trusting in the power of Jesus’ blood to reconcile you with God. Commit yourself to becoming more aware of God’s outreaching love toward your neighbors and friends. Ask him to make you a minister of reconciliation (2 Cor. 5:18-21).

Pray for reconciliation among foreign missionaries and local ministries where leaders are at odds with each other. Ask God to unify them with a single-minded vision for his kingdom.
