As Natural as Breathing

George Müller found no detail too insignificant to take to the Lord in prayer, believing that Philippians 4:6 is true: “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.” Childlike in trust, Müller took to the throne room of God the need for shoes and breakfasts and playgrounds, for teachers and assistants, for jobs for the oldest boys leaving his care, for healing of illnesses, and the provision of financial resources. Prayer became as natural as breathing for Müller who testified that, in more than seven decades of walking hand in hand with God, he had never found the throne vacant nor the supplies exhausted.

Father, You care about every detail in the lives of Your children. I am so grateful that I don’t have to be anxious for anything because You are the source of inexhaustible supply when I place my heart alongside of Your plans and purposes. Show me how to have the kind of trust in Your ability to hear and answer prayer that George Muller had. May Your Name be glorified as You move in response to the prayers of your people!

Prayer Points

Praise God as the provider and sustainer of all things (Ps. 145:15-16). Give thanks for the tenderness and the care that the Lord gives to the creatures that he has made (145:8-9). Confess those times this past week when you have forgotten to look on other people or other parts of God’s world with the same love that is in God’s heart. Commit yourself to treating others with the same compassion as God does. Ask God to fill your heart with his care, concern, and tenderness.

Pray for families in which the parents are too busy to really listen and respond to their children’s needs. Ask God to help them set their priorities in line with his will for their families.
