Touch the World through Prayer

In his book, Touch the World through Prayer, Wesley Duewel suggests ten ways to use Scripture in seeking to make your prayer more effective:

(1) Begin your regular prayer times with God’s Word.

(2) Apply to your life what you read.

(3) Personalize Scripture passages during your prayer time.

(4) Bathe your soul in Scripture to increase your faith.

(5) Memorize verses of Scripture which will be useful in prayer.

(6) Use Scripture in praising and worshipping the Lord.

(7) Use Scripture to confess your unworthiness.

(8) Use Scripture prayers and prayer expressions.

(9) Claim the Bible promises when you pray.

(10) Use Scripture to rebuke Satan.

Father, I long for my prayers to be powerful and effective!  Help me to be attentive to Your Word and to apply it to my life.  Show me how to soak in what You have written to instruct and encourage me.  May I humble myself before You, confessing my sin and repenting of my failure to obey.  Your promises are true and I will proclaim them!  As Jesus used the Word to thwart the activity of Satan, please help me to remember this powerful weapon You have given me to hinder his attempts to steal, kill and destroy!

Prayer Points

Praise God that he is a provider, meeting “all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus” (Phil. 4:19). Thank God that you do not need to believe in luck, chance, fate or fortune. Confess any times in which you have believed in yourself as your provider. Commit yourself to not being “anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God” (4:6). Ask that God’s peace, which transcends all understanding, will guard your heart and mind in Christ Jesus (4:7).

Pray that specific non-Christians whom you know will be struck by the futility of living without God and will seek out a relationship with Jesus Christ.
