O Lord, you have searched me and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways.—Psalm 139:1-3
As you begin to develop a relationship with your neighbor, always be aware that God loves your neighbor more than you do. God has provided for the needs of your neighbor from the riches of his eternal glory. God has a preferred future for your neighbor, filled with hope and promises. More than anything else, God wants a personal relationship with your neighbor that is every bit as intimate as the one he shares with you. God wants to give your neighbor his salvation to new life.
So as you begin to move toward the fantastic privilege of being used to introduce your neighbor to the Lord Jesus, never, ever forget that this is God’s plan, God’s hope, God’s dream, God’s desire for your neighbor.
Be aware that you will play an important part in the process but that God is the one who will be saving your neighbor. Here’s an illustration that might help. Imagine God making his way down some superhighway toward your neighbor’s life. Imagine yourself “merging” onto that highway and simply following the direction God has already set.
One of the things I need to remember every day of my life, and most often in my desire to be used to bring others to Christ, is that God works around the clock. Sometimes I wonder if God created us with a need to sleep so that we would be “out of the way” once in a while, so that he would be able to get some work done without our interference. Each morning, as you and I open our eyes, we need to check in with the Lord to find out just how far he has traveled down that highway while we’ve been sleeping. We need to be tuned in to God’s working closer and closer to the heart of our neighbor’s greatest need.
Celebrate the marvelous fact that God has invited you to be part of the greatest enterprise in his world: reconciliation—that is, restoring the relationships of men, women, and children in your neighborhood to the God who has created them and loves them!
Praise God this day for his amazing love and salvation! Praise him for his watchful care for you and your neighbors every minute of every day! Praise God for calling you to be part of his great work of renewing relationships with your neighbors!

Praise God, the giver of all good gifts (Mt. 7:11). Thank him for the greatest gift of all: his Son, Jesus Christ, our Savior (Lk. 22:19). Confess any lack of thankfulness for all of God’s gifts to you. Commit yourself to giving your time, talents, and resources for the gospel. Ask God to grant you a heart of generosity (Lk. 6:38).
Pray by name for one unsaved friend or loved one. Ask God to open this person’s heart to receive the indescribable gift of salvation through faith alone (2 Cor. 9:15; Eph. 2:8-9).
