Be still and know that I am God (Psalm 46:10).
We live in an “instant” generation. We live in a technological society that can fulfill our desires immediately. We have everything from instant potatoes to instant reports on the stock market.
But there is no instant fellowship with God. We cannot rush in and out of God’s presence. Prayer takes time. We must learn, as Psalm 46:10 says, to be still and know that He is God.
There are two important aspects to communion with God. First, we must understand that we have access to communion with the Father only through Jesus. Second, we must learn to wait upon the Lord and meditate on His Word.
Lord, I am always in such a hurry! Sometimes my awareness of Your Presence suffers because I allow life to crowd out what is truly important. Give me a continual desire to slow down and be still before You.
Praise God for confiding in those who love him (Ps. 25:14). Give thanks for this developing relationship God has established with you. Confess those times when you have refused to share intimately with God. Commit yourself to seeking his companionship daily. Ask God to create within you a desire for intimacy, total honesty, acceptance, and joy in his presence.
Ask God to give you the opportunity and courage to befriend a person seeking a meaningful friendship. Ask that Jesus will be the center of your relationship.
